A Zero-7 ish jawn in 48 hours...
I've always wanted to do this but not be forced...:)
Zero 7 is one of my favorite groups within the last 10 years or so. And I've always wanted to create a Zero-7 style EP...but with my special sauce on it. So op came up...Zero 7 style song for a liquor company's on-line ad campaign. No...no moral qualms. Let's get to work on a sound palate...
When companies ask for a "...similar to..." reference, I have to discern what era of the group they mean. For example, Zero7's first album, Simple Things, had much more of a programmed MPC'd feel to it. The sophomore effort, When It Falls, had a much more organic approach, although the electro influences were still there. Then, The Garden was straight up, quirky electro-stank.
Fortunately, the company also referenced Morcheeba. That tells me the company want's something between the sound of the 1st and 2nd albums. So, here we go...main template...
Rhodes - from Reason's Electro Mechanical. Have found none better in refill form
Acoustic Guitar - an old trusty 14mb soundfont I aquired years ago. Have never found a more realistic patch for arpeggios and solo lines.
Dusty, warm acoustic drums - would usually go to DrumDrops for my acoustics...but I think I need some more dirt and something less up-front. We'll go to Jazz Attic 2 for those.
Dusty, warm beatboxes - Think the Slo' Motion beatbox kits will do superb in this arena.
Random electronics, pads and analog synth lines & fx - all over the place...Flatpack, Thor, 60's & 70's refill...
Tomorrow night, I compose. Tuesday, mix, master and upload.
Peace.
